Autistic Pride Ruby Nation Cat Based on a challenge by my friend Phoenix Loomis, I created the image that best summarizes my interests, abilities, and how my place on the autism spectrum is part and parcel with the above two. Since my two main interests/obsessions are superheroes and animals, I designed a cybernetically techno-organic cat that would fit right in with my other comic, Ruby Nation.

I am grateful to Phoenix for this opportunity because it's important to celebrate people for who they are, not who they are "underneath" their disability. Person-first language is well-intended, but it can also be patronizing, trying to separate people who've had an unconventional and marginalized experience from the experience that made them who they are, as though they're "normal" underneath it. I celebrate my autism for what it's made me, warts and all. I know a great many autistic people who do the same.

The cat looks, at once, very dangerous and very confused about why he has a knife for a tail at this point. If the cat is a he. It looks good, though, whatever gender it might be.
